Atlanta Elite- 2010 Finger Lakes Classic CHAMPIONS

The Double Stixx Atlanta Elite All-Star team traveled to Syracuse, NY to participate in The John Pepper Memorial on Saturday, July 31st & The Finger Lakes Classic on Sunday, August 1st.  Our team finished an impressive 6-3-1 for the weekend and grabbed a share of the Finger Lakes Classic title. Our Elite Team was well rounded and comprised of 15 different HS lacrosse programs.

The New York lacrosse community was shocked when our Elite Team advanced to the Finger Lakes Championship.  After 11 minutes into the game, thunder struck and the championship games was canceled.  We left the tournament as co-champions with Irondequoit HS, a team that advanced to the Class B 2010 NY State Tournament.  It was a bit of a letdown that we were unable to finish the game, but we left knowing that we were able to compete with some of the best teams NY has to offer.

On Saturday we participated in the John Pepper Memorial tournament held at the legendary West Genesee High School.   Our Elite team finished the day a very respectable 2-2.  We came up short by 3 goals against Skaneateles and 4 against West Genesee.  Both teams won their Class Championships and advanced to the NY State 2010 Lacrosse Tournament. The John Pepper Memorial Tournament drew over 80 college coaches including Syracuse, Hobart, Army, Navy, Lemoyne, Cortland and many other dominant lacrosse college programs.  This tournament gives our players an amazing opportunity to play in front of the best lacrosse college coaches in the country. We would lke to congratulate our players who finished an impresive 6-3-1.

Thank you so much for making the NY trip an incredible experience for Gary.  He said it was the best team and coaches he has had the pleasure to play with.  By far it was his most fun trip and the most competitive lacrosse he has experienced.

You guys did a great job.

Gary Heusel

I want to express my thanks and gratitude to you for the experience Alex has had and is having with Atlanta Elite.  The Team is coached, managed and organized in a manner of which you all should be proud.

I know that Alex really enjoys playing for Atlanta Elite and it is due to two things.  The first is that he knows the level of skill and competition will be quite high.  The second is because of you guys and the way in which you run the Team; straight forward, no BS, and with a lot of fun and enjoyment.

Alex, gets asked to play on a fair number of teams, many of which he declines.  But he always wants to play for you guys.  That says and means a lot to me. As a parent of a teenage boy I am grateful that Alex has had the opportunity to play with Atlanta Elite and to be around Coaches who go about things the right way.  I hope you guys appreciate the positive impact that you have on these young men.

Regards,

Jon Scheumann

As a parent I wanted to write you all and say thanks for everything you did for the guys. Nine games in three days is a lot but no one complained. The history of West Genesee lacrosse coupled with great weather in the Finger Lakes and some of the finest players in the country as opponents made for an unbelievable lacrosse environment. It has to be cool seeing the Syracuse, Cornell, Hobart and Lemoyne coaches (to name just a few) on the sidelines.

Cory and many of the guys I talked to said it was the best experience they had ever had. For Cory it was not only the best team he's ever played for but the most fun he has ever had traveling with a team. Keeping the guys together the whole time and assigning roommates they did not already know was cool and a nice touch!

What you all did to get the guys "gelled" in a day was amazing. I especially liked the Friday scrimmage and the morning jogs to clear the cobwebs. Also several of the parents commented on not seeing any poor sportsmanship. Great call making character an important selection criteria.

Lastly, the color picture and bound recruiting packet you made for the team was excellent. The information listed caused several guys to be approached by schools that might have over looked them had they not seen GPA's and interests. Awesome stuff!

Take care and thanks again!
Scott Hall
